Traian Basescu

Traian Băsescu (Romanian pronunciation: [traˈjan bəˈsesku]; born November 4, 1951) is a Romanian politician and former Merchant Navy officer. He is the current President of Romania, after winning the office in the 2004 presidential election, and being inaugurated on December 20, 2004. Prior to becoming President, he was the Mayor of Bucharest from June 2000 until December 2004.

On April 19, 2007 the Romanian Parliament suspended Băsescu. As the Constitutional Court of Romania acknowledged the Parliament’s vote on April 20, 2007, Băsescu remained suspended as president until a referendum which took place on May 19, 2007 confirmed that the impeachment should not stand: 24.75% voted to impeach Băsescu, and 74.48% to maintain him. Băsescu is the first president in the history of Romania who has been officially suspended.

Mircea Dan Geoană (born July 14, 1958 in Bucharest) is a Romanian politician, and the current president of the upper chamber of the Romanian Parliament, the Senate. Since 21 April 2005 he has been the head of the Partidul Social Democrat (PSD, Social Democratic Party), one of Romania’s largest parties.

George-Crin-Laurenţiu Antonescu [krin antonesku] (born 21 September 1959) is a Romanian politician, currently serving as President of the main opposition party in Romania, the National Liberal Party (PNL). He is also a candidate for the Romanian Presidential Elections of 2009. He is a member of the Senate, his election having taken place during the 2008 legislative election. Between 1996 and 2008 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies, acting as leader of the party delegates between 2007 and 2008.

Kelemen Hunor

Kelemen Hunor

Hunor Kelemen (born October 18, 1967, Cârţa) is a Romanian politician and Hungarian language writer. The current executive president of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), he has been a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies since 2000, and was nominated as his party’s candidate for the 2009 presidential election.

In 2000, Hunor Kelemen was awarded the Order of the Star of Romania, Commodore rank, and in 2008 Hungary’s Middle Cross of the Order of Merit. He is currently not married.
